In the aftermath of Hurricanes Ike and Gustav and the incredible destruction to the Gulf Coast, the American Red Cross and ModSpace, the corporate sponsor of the Tour du Rouge, have elected to postpone this year’s 515-mile fundraising bicycle ride. The new tour date is May 3 – May 8, 2009.

Cyclists who are ready for a real challenge will find it in the inaugural May 2009, 515-mile Tour du Rouge benefiting American Red Cross Chapters from Houston to New Orleans.

Over 300 riders are expected to participate in the bicycle tour. Each rider will have an individual fundraising goal of $2,500. The Red Cross hopes to raise awareness and over $1 million for this event to help support disaster-prone Gulf Coast communities.

Averaging 85 miles per day, cyclists will experience unique points of interest along the Gulf Coast as well as the lingering devastation from Hurricanes Ike & Gustav, and even Rita & Katrina from three years ago.
