PROJECT PROFILE: Geauga Regional Hospital – Chardon, OH
Building Use: Business Offices/Conference Center   •   Total Square Footage: 4,240 sq. ft.   •   Days to Complete: 120

Business Offices/Conference CenterGeauga Hospital needed some additional space for use as a business office and conference center. Site constraints played an integral role in the facility design, as valuable parking spaces could not be lost to accommodate the new addition.

MedBuild was able to address the hospital’s needs through the use of component construction. To save on overall costs, the buildings were delivered and crane set in a one-day process. Since Geauga is located in a snow belt area, extra measures were taken for snow load as well as to increase the energy efficiency of the building, including installation of the EIFS exterior, solar band glazed glass windows and maximum insulation in the ceiling and walls. The HVAC system includes roof mount units, economizers and Honeywell programmable thermostats to control each area of the building.

The project utilizes clearspan construction throughout the entire building and includes an internal fire-rated corridor to seamlessly transition the 3-hour rated site-built corridor and existing hospital.

A cmu perimeter wall foundation and interior cmu piers allow the building to be set at grade to match the existing hospital elevation. A completely automated audiovisual system, which can be controlled from various points and will operate all A/V components from the podium, was installed in the conference center. The system includes a state of the art sound system, flat-screen plasma televisions, and a drop-down automated visual screen.

In addition to the business office area and the conference area, kitchens were located on both sides of the building, offering separate conveniences to each area, including a pass-through window to the conference center. Restrooms are centrally located.

The business office utilizes cubicles for maximum capacity and includes two hard wall offices. Custom carpet, paint & wall coverings complete the interior design to the same standards required within the hospital. With close access to the staff parking lot, the addition offers the hospital the opportunity to provide outreach programs to the community in the evening hours when the lot and facility are not used.
